Krakow Airport (Krakow-Balice) is the airport closest to Krakow. From Krakow Airport you can reach the city centre fairly easy. Travelling by bus or taxi is the most popular option. When you’re planning to use a rental car in Krakow, can choose to already retrieve it at the airport. As Krakow Airport is currently under renovation, there is no train transport to the city until further notice.
Taxi from Krakow Airport
The most comfortable way to get from Krakow Airport to the city center, is by taxi. As with any international airport, you’ll find some taxi’s waiting just outside the terminal. A trip to your hotel in the city center will take about 30 minutes and will cost you around 90 PLN, roughly €20/£18.

Train from Krakow Airport
Due to renovations of the airport, some of which are still going on, the train service has been cancelled for years on end. But since the end of 2015 there is a brand new, regular train service between Krakow Airport and the city. A train ride to the central station (Dworzec Główny) will take 18 minutes, including several stops. The train stops at 50 meters from the arrivals hall. You can buy single fare tickets of 9 PLN at the RELAY kiosk in the airport or at the ticketmachine at the platform. For more information, check the website of the Polish railways.
Bus from Krakow Airport
In front of the main entrance of Krakow airport is a bus stop for bus 208, which goes to the central train station in the city, and 252 which goes to the edge of the city center. At night, bus 902 stops here. All buses take you to the main train station in Krakow in 40 minutes. Keep in mind that if your hotel or apartment is not close to this location, you’ll have to switch to (another) bus, tram or taxi. A ticket for the bus sets you back +/- 5 PLN (€ 1) as you’ll travel through two zones (strefa I and II). You can buy a ticket in the vending machine in the bus, at the ticket machines at the bus stop or at the RELAY kiosk at the airport. In the bus you have to pay with Polish coins. The machines are in English. Important: don’t forget to validate your bought ticket in the yellow machines inside the bus.
Car rental at Krakow Airport
